The Alma N1 is situated in Newington Green, close to both Islington and Stoke Newington. The pub is divided in two sections with one side for table service dining and the other for more casual dining and drinking.
The Pub has a comfortably homely feel with mismatched furniture, red & aubergine walls, massive leather sofas, Maori art and church candles.
It is run by Kirsty Valentine the owner, who prides herself on quality not quantity. The food is best described as home style cooking, fresh and seasonal with modern British influences. The menu changes regulary and everything is prepared in their huge kitchen, right down to the bread, chutneys, ice creams & sloe gin for the bar.
The Alma has a great selection of wine, including their very own bottle; Alma Rioja. Learn more about wine in The Alma Wine Club. Hosted on the first Wednesday of every month, the wine club tastes wines from around the world in a series of tutored tastings. See ‘What’s on’ section for more details.
Over the weekend enjoy a late bar on Friday and Saturday nights, The Alma brunch menu on Saturdays and The Sunday Roast, complete with fresh juice and homemade Bloody Marys.
Outside, the rear garden is the perfect place for those summer soirees. With herbs and plants hanging down from the flat roof or dotted around the garden it’s the perfect secluded hideaway. By night it transforms with candles twinkling and the odd flamingo holding court.
In the summer The Alma provides Picnics for the Park. You order from the Menu, choose your drinks and your perfect outdoor meal will be supplied with plates and cutlery in a bag ready for you to got to the park or, if you can’t be bothered to cook, just sit in your garden!
The Alma has a New Zealand Tuck Shop selling goodies that a native kiwi craves away from home such as Watties Tomato Sauce, Chocolate Slab, Jet Planes, Minties & Pineapple lumps; Kirsty is herself a Kiwi and ought to know it better than anyone else.
Children, Dogs, Weddings and Birthday parties all are welcome!
